I'm always late to concerts. I usually start off at the venue bar, then at intermission head to the sound/mixing booth area and then maybe slide in closer for the headliner flashing my fake stage crew pass.

I don't own any Parashirts. I bought a HCT T from the Parastore but gave it away. http://tinyurl.com/2d6jxw5
 Don't own a Taylor one either

Parent At The Disco's picture

@Em Another thing to keep in mind is this: Even if you don't get there early, sometimes the crowd thins out between acts, so look for openings and scoot forward opportunistically if you see them,

ThisHeartItBeats's picture

@Emily
Hmmmmm. Maybe start waiting in line around 4 for a good chance. But then again it's different at every show, and this is coming from me, who is too lazy to queue and comes to shows when doors open because I'm lazy as. :') I may not be the best person to ask that particular question, bahahah

YelyahSandy's picture

Wow, the forums have been pretty dead.

Not that I'm complaining, ofc.

@Dick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLLFS7OOPqM

First Aid Kit is one of my favorite bands, and this song is especially great because Conor is in it. <3

And thanks, I'll keep that in mind. :))

Emicia's picture

@Nikki
Thanks again :')
How early do you think I should get there? Considering it starts at 7 and the venue is two hours away?

@Luchi
I think converse are good enough, yeahh? :)

@Martin
Ooooh thanks! Definitely going to keep that in mind :D

@May
Thanks :')
I'll definitely tell you all how it goes :)

And I heard that they've been coming out after their shows to meet up with some of the fans so, who knows? Maybe I'll meet them :')

Parent At The Disco's picture

I assume everyone is wearing a Paramore shirt today and that @Dick will send in a picture for their collage.

Bright Eyes is the second or third maybe fourth best thing to come out of Omaha.

Not a huge fan, but I do have 10 Bright Eyes albums and 5 EP's
Feel free to hit me up anytime.

I like that Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes is a fan of Leonard Cohen http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=147046994&m=147060878

and Neil Young  :) happy

also                                                                                                                                                                               We shouldn't forget about Brendon Urie and ELO.

I love how John O'Callaghan from The Maine is such a huge Steely Dan fan:

Here is a picture from AP Magazine of him holding the Gaucho album:

@Nikki It's pretty cool how we get the same bands either before or after you guys. I love comparing notes on performances with friends in SoCal.

P.S. @Dick Andy Biersack is a Meatloaf fan and thinks the Bat Out Of Hell album is pretty much perfection:

ThisHeartItBeats's picture

I may see The Maine in June also. We shall see :)
Hooray for The Maine touringg.

Parent At The Disco's picture

Oh, and if you want barrier, get there really early if possible.

Enjoy your first concert, @Em!

Hey May's picture

@Em Listen to Lucy and Nikki. I'm short too and, yes, short people tend to be most disadvantaged. But don't worry,nothing bad will happen to you, only good things *yay* Plus, I'm seeing The Maine in August, so, tell me later if you enjoyed te show!

Parent At The Disco's picture

@Em All good advice below.

One alternative spot: Zack Hall, the hulky bodyguard for Panic! At The Disco, always recommends that if it's your first concert, the best place to be is right in front of the sound booth at their guardrail (this tends to be toward the back of the venue or halfway back anyway). There's usually no pushing there, and the sound is perfect since the sound people mix it til is sounds good. You can usually see OK, and depending on the guardrail type you can often prop yourself up on the lower rung to get an extra 6-inch boost.

Enjoy The Maine, btw -- we're seeing them in June here and I am looking forward to it.

@All The Coldplay concert was really fun. Yes, they had some recorded beds in the mix here and there, but Chris Martin really knows how to put on a show. One very cool thing was that they gave everyone wristbands at the entrance. When the lights went down, the wristbands lit up all different colors and they synchronized the lights to the music. It was sparkly:

violet cullen's picture

@Em Wear comfy shoes! Even if they're super cute, don't do heels. (But if you must, platforms or something short). Have fun. :))

@Dick aWH shh you're so sweet. Thank you. :) Bright Eyes are literally perfect goodness. Idk if they're your thing, but you should give them a listen. One of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=facgVZuGzRo

@May Omfg nice. :') Baha.

ThisHeartItBeats's picture

@Emily
Ahhh awesome! They are pretty good live :)
You may get pushed around, but tbh it won't be too bad. It's rare that you'd get a serious injury from a show. Just try not to let the people pushing their way to the front push you back too far, if you get up there. Keep your place as best you can. To get to the barrier you'll probably want to wait in line a couple hours earlier because the shows of theirs I've been to, people start waiting early.
But yeah, I'd say the front is worth it. But if you're super worried, you could stick to being further in the back where there's more space and you'll still enjoy the show :)

Emicia's picture

@Nikki
The Maine :)
Thank youuuu!
The only thing I'm worried about is like being at barrier or NOT getting up there. Cause I'm really short and I have a feeling I'm going to end up getting hurt or something.

ThisHeartItBeats's picture

Heyyy all.

@Emily
!!! Who are you seeing?
Aand tips...
Bring as little as you can, it just tends to be more convenient

Avoid wearing super warm clothing cause it gets hot (I made the mistake of wearing a sweatshirt at my first legit show and oh god)

If you're close to the barricade then you're usually in the part of the crowd that gets pushy so be prepared for that, but sometimes it's pretty worth it. Personally I think the closer you are to stage, the better the experience

The earlier you get there the easier it'll be for you to get to a spot closer to the stage

Careful with anything that could fall off of you easily (loose jewelry possibly, glasses, etc)

Bring some extra cash if you can for water afterwards and merch if you want

If you're looking to meet the band, depending on the band they usually come out after the show by the merch booths or by the tour buses, wherever they may be at the particular venue.

Emicia's picture

Wow, so um I'm going to very first live show in A WEEK.
Omigod, I'm kind of nervous. Tips?

I did't know that turntables have the repeat play option, lol.
anyways
I g-mailed you the cd justin case.

Hey May's picture

@Lucy I'm not doing this. I hope he breaks his leg and can't attend Bamboozle, just because I won't go with him. See how nice I am as relative? :}

@Dick My pocket likes the free one better.

@Martin Coldplay! "Clocks" will be forever my favorite song by them. It reminds me of Peter Pan.

violet cullen's picture

I want a record player just to listen to this album over and over: http://conoroberst.bigcartel.com/product/bright-eyes-letting-off-the-hap...

@Martin It's definitely plausible- Christie is pretty stupid.

@May Jealous! Tell him to have fun though if he goes. :)

Parent At The Disco's picture

@Dick The JaneDear Girls are under-appreciated north of Virginia and West of the Mississippi, I think.

I want that rats/cats song. I am glad someone preserved it for posterity on YouTube!

Coldplay for us tonight. And Metronomy and The Pierces to open.

Hey May                                                                                                                                                                             Yes. There's a free and a $4.99 Android version. Don't know what the difference is, $4.99 I'm guessing, lol.

I don't see the JaneDear Girls on the list.                                                                                                    Havelock Country Jamboree

and                                                                                                                                                                                  Pretty sure the SoundHound app. doesn't come in Blackberry.

Parent At The Disco's picture

This is pretty neat if you haven't seen it. You probably already know Soundhound, which will recognise playing songs.

I just noticed they have a feature called LiveLyrics that shows the lyrics and scrolls them along with the song. I made a short video showing it:
