so I'm pretty sure brick by boring brick is about the hayley/josh relationship. josh prob doesn't know that tho.

my friend pointed out to me how in the bridge of bbbb hayley's backing herself in vocals and she's saying "you're better off without me" -- yes the chorus of pressure

and in awkis's book, hayley's thank you's says "neil - you inspire me and i love you, my prince"

bbbb - "and her prince finally came to save her and the rest you can figure out"

    joshua NEIL farro???

    eh?

    what do you guys think?

she also thanks josh in her thank you's but i smell a cover up....if only

@matt but i'm trying to resurface their relationship. it's done. k, cool, awesome. i'm saying that that song has certain elements of their past in it.
what @hil said, i couldn't agree more with. ROFL at some stuff hil said! :) ily

@*hil*
But with the reference of the fairy tale theme there is usually always a prince. I think it's just another reference of how you want your life to be perfect.

"So one day he found her crying
coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
and the rest you can figure out
but it was a trick and the clock struck twelve
So build your home brick by boring brick
or the wolf's going to blow it down
Keep your feet on the ground
when your head's in the clouds"

It's a fantasy world, when the princess is lost or injured or whatever the prince comes in, but this prince didn't save her, he was bad instead.

I don't think there's any point in accentuating on certain bits and trying to make it fit a theory. The whole song is about needing to come back to reality and stop dreaming about things you want. Randomly throwing in "It's about Josh and Hayley's break up" or whatever doens't fit in there. By the sounds of it they both ended on okay terms, you can even tell that by how accepting they are of eachothers new relationships and how the band is still together.

i didnt ignore your post, at all. i didnt quite get what you meant before, thats why i posted the meaning hayley wrote. but i see what you meant now. i suppose sometimes things can get misinterpreted over the internet.
i never said that you couldnt read, i said that i didnt know if you read what i posted before or not,
i didnt retype it, just copy and pasted :)
but i wasnt at all having at go at you.
it's interesting to hear what other people think the meaning is :)

hil's picture

Also, I did not say she was angry BECAUSE they had all changed but in HOW they had changed. While growing into those changes the band grew apart and were fighting- it is a normal thing. She may have felt the changes the other members were going through fed into the problems because of whatever reasons. I do not know, I am not her nor was I there.

hil's picture

Yes dear, I can read. Thanks for wasting a comment retyping it all. I also see that you ignored most of my post. The song is about throwing down the fantasy world you've created for yourself to exist in. Hayley has also said in interviews that the song is about learning to exist in reality instead of the fantasy.
And yes, the band went to counseling sessions, I can read interviews as well.

This is a THEORY of a line that is in the song and for our own curiosity we are attempting to discuss it. The line clearly references a Prince which could have been a boyfriend because that is generally the relationship between a prince and a girl. Could that be Josh? She referred to him as her prince in AWKIF. It is a plausible theory about a LINE in the song that you have posted the whole meaning to more than once.

The thing is, a lot of elements go into a song and it's main meaning. I write songs with many elements and scenarios that all ultimately lead to the main meaning of the song. That does not mean the whole song is about those references. This is about one of those LINES. Jeesh.

bernafuve's picture

she was never angry with the band because they changed, because that would be very hypocritical of her, seeing as she has changed too.
she was feeling iscolated from them after the cancelling of the shows around 2008 and then the near break-up period. they went into counselling according to an interveiw of them afterwards.
i dont know if you read what i typed before so here it is again (it's from the brand new eyes journal booklet thing)
"i believe it's important to young at heart. to have faith in what might seem impossible and to have goals above your current abilities or temporary means. however there is a huge difference, to me anyways, between aknowledging your dreams and never living in reality. some people are so scared of being boring - so insecure with who they might be - that they build up a huge lie. its all one big distraction. for not only the on-lookers, but for their self. to me it seems like a selfish way to live. a great means of defense. but selfish none-the-less. ive been hurt by this lifestyle. hurt by people i barely know. ive been guilty of livivng this way. its so common."
that's what hayley wrote the song about, but i can see how some peoploe could relate it to love :)

hil's picture

I don't think it's about their relationship but I feel there are definate references to it. She used to call him her prince, and BIG part of growing up is your finding and losing love. And half the album is about how she is angry with the band and how they've all changed. 'It was a trick and the clock struck 12'-- the clock striking signifies time changing and how a relationship can feel like a fairytale, especially when one is young. Also when you break up you overanalyze things and look for what can be perceived as lies, or tricks, to justify it ending. They have both moved on, it's true. That issue wasn't mentioned in the original thread?

And we can argue about what is said over the final chorus of bbbb but either way, it's pretty much the same thing. I believe that that part could reference her life being better without the part of herself that wanted to live in the fairytale. or even the fairy tale world itself. Not specifically Josh. However the line could be a nod to how she was or existed when AWKIF was written.

And I don't think she is trying to rehash the Josh/Hayley thing- y'all are the ones that seem to keep brining it up in a conversation about analyzing a set of lyrics to better understand them. So um- get over yourselves and maybe try opening minds to alternative theories?

And thanks for the credit! I like that my random thuoghts inspire other random thoughts.

screamHbomb's picture

oh guys it was just a thought. i'm over their relationship. if i had my way, like i said, josh would be mine :)

MidnightFelicis97's picture

Erm.....
Erm....
NO!

Sorry but you're being delusional.
AWKIF is 5 years ago, so the idea of that even being relevent now is ridiculous.

And it's "You'll be better off without me" in that tense it makes no sense for it to be about Josh.

ALi P_2's picture

why does everyone think that every paramore song is about them? they went out. they broke up. big deal.

screamHbomb's picture

true lol. i know a lot of ppl think i'm trying to resurface the hayley josh should be together thing but i'm not. if i had my way, me and josh would be together :P

bernafuve's picture

personally i dont think it has a double meaning, i mean even before i got the booklet and read what it was about, i knew it was about people living in fantasy. but i can see how you would think that though :)
and i just grabbed it from my room and typed it up cause i'm hellla bored haha :D

screamHbomb's picture

@jacketpulse yeah i knew it was something like that. sorry, i don't keep my nose buried in it lol

screamHbomb's picture

not saying they're not over each other. but that past isn't exactly over. i also have the booklet. read it loads of times. and this song has a double meaning.
@yelyahsandy if this topic makes you wanna bang your head on desks then maybe you should steer clear. it's just a thought and i hate sarcastic remarks. thanks.

bernafuve's picture

@crystalm13
you're welcome ^.^

skidcudi's picture

i dont think so.

she has a boyfriend, he's married, im sure they're so over each other. and ive heard her talk about the song online.

Crystaal13's picture

Thanks jacketpulse :)

bernafuve's picture

it is indeed amazing :)

ThisHeart_ItBeats's picture

@jacketpulse hayley's writing is pretty much as amazing as her lyrics. i love that little booklet :)

bernafuve's picture

about the lyrics in the bridge
they're "you'll be better off without me now, ohhh"
not from pressure.
i have the brand new eyes booklet
let me read you the real meaning of BBBB:
"i believe it's important to young at heart. to have faith in what might seem impossible and to have goals above your current abilities or temporary means. however there is a huge difference, to me anyways, between aknowledging your dreams and never living in reality. some people are so scared of being boring - so insecure with who they might be - that they build up a huge lie. its all one big distraction. for not only the on-lookers, but for their self. to me it seems like a selfish way to live. a great means of defense. but selfish none-the-less. ive been hurt by this lifestyle. hurt by people i barely know. ive been guilty of livivng this way. its so common."
so that's what the song is about :)

YelyahSandy's picture

I know it's far-fetched and all, but think about it.

Ever considered it was ACTUALLY about growing up?
