can we just agree that the cover was only bad because we are all comparing it to the Paramore version? I mean, when was the last time someone made a cover of Paramore and sounded just like Hayley did? No one can replicate Hayley's voice and you all are just going to have to accept that and move on
i thought it was..... okay. i mean whats her face sounded really weird and that crying thing. lame!! If she was to sing i was expecting her to sing less fruufruu and more rick and rockerlish

and they could have at LEAST gotten the lyrics right
they've got the timing all wrong..

although i suppose that i had too high of an expectation of it.

i didn't like the cover.... it's awesome that they covered it on glee i thought that was cool cuz i love the song but rachel's voice sounded horrible on it it was sickly sweet and baby-like, which is not right at all for a song that's written about losing faith in love and then finding the one person of your dreams to make you believe again. i couldn't stand her voice in the cover, but i was excited it was on glee and it just made me appreciate hayley's vocals and talent even more.
Rachel is played by Lea Michele. And even though you may not like her voice, it's because she's from Broadway. Making her voice really high and powerful. I'm not saying that because I hate Paramore nor Glee. Actually, I LOVE them both.
They only did that song because at the VMA's, Ryan Murphy happened to be at the show-with the other cast of Glee. When Hayley performed The Only Exception, Ryan Murphy actually wanted to do that song for the show. So, that is only my own opinion. I'm not judging anyone who disagrees with me, I'm just saying my own opinion because I happen to like Lea Michele and Hayley Williams very much.
So, I'm not saying that you other people can hate me now. Just take it easy and have your own comments about what I said. You don't need to spread it all around like rumors. So thank you and Buh Bye!
I tend to watch Glee every now and then & I must say, they are a talented bunch of people.
The girl that plays Rachel, well, I don't really like her voice as a whole. Not for the fact that she sang Paramore, but I just don't like it. It seems to high and baby-ish (don't kill me, its just my opinion).
Personally, I don't think they should have done Paramore. I didn't like it all (as said for the above reason). So. . .yeah.
Hayley puts way more emotion behind the song and you can hear that in her voice, but this girl sounded like, yeah here's the song just sing it. Didn't sound like she liked doing it at all.

I like Glee and all, and the show is funny and they have amazing voices, but I didn't like the cover of TOE. Not. At. All.
Obviously Hayley sings it sooo much better. I mean, when she sings it, it has meaning and it's just so incredibly beautiful and like you said, it's soulful. But when Glee sang it, they were just covering it. There were really no emotions, and they sang it well, but I didn't like it.
In my opinion, they ruined the song.

I didn't like it. :p In Hayley's voice is waaaay better. And Rachel's emotion... not.
Let me start by saying, I like Glee. It's a good show, they've done some pretty good covers (I like the Don't Stop Beilevin' and some of the Britney Spears) but I hate their cover of The Only Exception. Having listened to the Paramore version so much, I already knew it wasn't going to come up to the original, I mean, the girl who plays Rachel has a very nice voice of her own, but it didn't fit right with The Only Exception in my opinion......

Well I'm not saying that I'm Glee-hater but the song came out just wrong. It's original version is so poweful and mesmerizing. The cover is so boring, her voice can't match it right, I think.
It's not that ol' whats-her-name from Glee has a dodgy voice, it's just, it aint the right voice for such a song. I mean, when I listen to Hayley sing it, it really sounds so heartfelt but having watched the Glee cover, it kinda sounds like she's reading from a lyric sheet... If that makes sense? Like, it feels kinda... Hollow I guess.

I don't think I have a problem with it. I know everyone is complaining about it either being too much like the original song, or it not being like the original song, or that her voice doesn't suit it and it was changed, but it's a cover and the whole point of a cover is to try and make a song your own. I think Lea made a good shot at it and put alot of emotion into it. Obviously it isn't gonna be as good as the original; covers majority of the time are never. I like how they added in some more high notes, it made more emotional and made up for the fact that maybe Lea's voice didn't quite suit it.

I think they were trying to make it all sweet and soft sounding..but..it doesnt sound right. if i didnt know its paramore i never would have guessed it. its lacking that soul like they said, and just power. it makes the song meaningless. and paramore never lacks meaning.
i cannot stand listening to it :( the only exception is one of my fav songs, but glee ruined it a bit. defo wasnt soulful enough. they could have chosen i more 'paramoreish' song. like crushcushcrush or BBBB.
i think you are totally right! her voice isn't soulfull at all (she has a child voice xD). i mean, that is my oppinon. i like hayley's voice more than glee's
