homecoming is a high school dance thats usually held in the beginning or middle of fall. i dont know how it got started or anything but it seems to only be popular in the US, though i could be wrong.
and you should just ask him if he is planning on going with anyone first just to get the convo started. if he says no then just suggest that he should go with you. just say something like, "Well since i dont have a date and neither do you, why dont we got together??"

Its a hard thing to do when you are shy but my advice is...have a normal convo, bring up the subject of homecoming, and ask if he's going with anyone and if not then would he'd like to go with you! its the best way to do it coz after a casual chat you'll feel more confident with one another! plus you might not even have to ask...if he's smart he'll catch on and ask you first! good luck!

It is simple, we make it difficult, I know you're afraid to be rejected, but if he don't say anything, who will do it?, if you ask him, he can say yes, and if he says no, that's okay, you can ask someone else interested in you.
