2. stevie ray vaughan
2. toy caldwell (the master of thumb picking, look him up)
3. duane allman
4. bb king.
5. rickey melodock
6. aron lewis
7. jimmy hindrix
8. kirk hammet
9. carlos santana
10. george harrison.
notice i didn't put eric clampton or kurt bobane. cuz they are over rated

To be honest Synyster Gates is awesome but he is no where near as good as some solo guitarists like Steve Vai and John Petrucci! Although in a lot of the top guitarists lists they do have loads of people that arent that good at playing like Kurt Cobain so i see what you mean!
slash is realy overated
I like Orianathi Panagaris, she's a really awesome guitarist, especially for a girl... I like Jimmy Hendrix and Slash too.
@Mark P: I'm pretty sure it's universally agreed that Jimi Hendrix, who was mentioned, is a better guitarist than Slash.
ever heard of buckethead? he is also an amazing guitarist, you should check him out.
Kirk hammett & hendrix are my favourites, and the best IMO :)
Slash, IS good, but like cobain & clapton, although they are pretty damn awesome, he's overrated.
Why is'nt Slash on your list he wipes the floor with everyone that you mentioned.

quitar players are a dime a dozen nowadays but two that I think were influential are:
Tony Iommi, and Roger Waters
and on and on.lol ?
I have no idea what my list would be.I'm not a guitarists though so really I have no clue what technically makes a good guitarists. As long as they kick ass and play with heart and passion they're good to me. Now ask me a singer question and I can answer that lol why didn't my parents make me stick to guitar when I was little, I blame them lol
