    This isn't a "OMG!!!!!!!!! HAYLEY IS LIKE, MY ROLE MODEL. I WANT TO BE HER!!!!!!!!" kind of topic.

    I went to see The Pretty Reckless last night and looking around I saw SO many girls who dressed just like Taylor Momsen. Suspender stockings, REALLY skanky dresses or skirts, the long blonde hair (Some even deliberelty had roots like her :|), black or bright red lipstick, the panda eyes, stupid heels, leather jackets, aviators etc etc.

    Why though? I can't imagine they went out and bought all these things JUST for the gig so I'm imagening that owned them already, and do they wear that stuff regularly. At Paramore I saw people dressed as normal people, some had red hair but that's not the same, none were in the EXACT same style as Hayleys etc etc etc. I just can't believe how embarressing it was to see them.

    When you think of a role model you think of them as good people who have done something in their life or has stood for something. I mean, I really look up to people like Matt Bellamy, do I dress like him and dye and style my hair like him? Noooo...

    Granted, I wanted to nick the hair style of Nathan Leone from Madina Lake, and I got a similar hair style, but that's different. My hair was blonde anyway, I wanted it longer and that's the style I went with.

    I just don't understand. Of course it's completely plausible that they went like that JUST for the concert, I just really doubt it. Why would you be so you HAVE to dress like her? It's completely losing sense of self and stealing someone else's. I'm not saying how you dress is your identity or who you are etc. But everyone looks and thinks "I like that" at something and buys it. It's not very often that someone says "I like her hair, her make up, her clothes, her shoes, her stockings. I'ma buy it all and wear it all at once" is it?
    Anyway, probably just me, but it was weird.

    I was in a room full of Taylor Momsen's and it was annoying and funny and bleh at the same time :|

@Coraline
Was I making a big deal out of it?
Was I saying that they shouldn't do it and it's evil and they'll go to hell for it?
No.
I think you'll find I was trying to find an explanation.
Read what I say before you comment.

yeah, ur right.. sometimes ppl get obsessed with an idol and try to be like them just because they like them more than they like themselves...
no wait.. this is really really really rare!

in ur topic, ur prob talking about crazy girls who are looking for a cause to change their style to something extra-ordinary.. they just saw this girl, liked her style and decided to dress like her for a couple of months.. whats the big deal?
clothes dont make ur character.. well for me anyway!

One of my friends went to see The Pretty Reckless, and she met them backstage x) Just saying.
And I agree, people should just be themselves.

@katy
It's not being brave at all. She's rebelling against the restraints she thinks she has.

k8YPARAMORE's picture

i agree with where ur coming from but at the same time its their choice and mybe they like beacuse shes brave anough to wear that sort of stuff and they want to be brave like her.

Rachel Fabuleux's picture

NO! Stars wear shirts and jeans??? Really?! Do they eat food too? No way, dude. No way.

tragically_hip's picture

The funny part is, Taylor Momsen wears jeans and a T-shirt when she's not on stage working!

I agree. It's one thing to admire someones's style but to completely replicate it is IMO sad. Personally I like to sample from all kinds of styles to make my own.

But being a teenager is hard; trying to find something "original" and and appealing to the eyes that you like. So it's only normal for girls or guys, for that matter. To dress like someone they look up to (Which is beyond me why anyone would want to be dresses like that 'wannabe' Momsen; but that's a whole other story).

It's going to take some time to find something you like that won't make you completely lose your individuality. But when it comes down to it EVERYBODY dresses like somebody. This has been happening for decades kids and teens want to dress up just like they're FAVORITE famous person.

But I don't thinkg any teenager needs to be dressing up like "little Miss Taylor" call me a prude but for a 16 year she's pretty slutty looking.

hahaha totally agree, I don´t understand why people do that, I mean it´s quite fun to do it sometimes, but that keeps you away from who you really are. I´m such a big fan of paramore, but I´m not gonna buy red skinny jeans, dye my hear red, and try to sing like Hayley even when I don´t have the most beutiful voice :P...
I mean, I dress how i like, i don´t follow any trends, i just see a clothe that i like and i wear it! that´s all!
c´mon people be unique, be yourself!

@Matt

First I must say that I also don't see any sense in playing 'stars', wearing like them, dying hair and doing the same make up. I do not wear such clothes as Hayley Williams or Taylor Momsen but I'm their fan anymore.
As a girl I have to say too that dressing up like our idols is quite funny. :D but some of girls can't (I don't know how, it's sooo stupid)find themeslves and their own style so they must steal someone's. I do not behave like that but I know many girls who do. and I'm not saying I don't like them but sometimes I have no idea who they are! Are they themselves or are they Ke$a? That's weird I agree but I can respect humen's silliness.

LydiaConspires's picture

Why would anyone want to dress like TayMom? :| I know she's really pretty but her style is ridiculously try-hard.
I don't get it either. When I saw Paramore last month, I saw one girl dressed exactly like Hayley in MizBiz, and everybody around her was side-eyeing her. There were also a ton of people wearing plaid which I thought was strange, but that's kinda irrelevant unless Hayley has a plaid obsession which I don't think she has.
I think people go too far when they look up to someone. It's kind of like an obsession. I understand adopting parts of their idol to themselves, like a certain type of clothing or a phrase or something because it's just emulating their role model and kind of flattering to that person, but when they try to BE a replica of that person it's kind of creepy. It's like they lose all sense of their own identity in their desperation to be just like their idol. I don't know why anybody would do that, unless their self-esteem and self-confidence was so low that they saw the popularity of their idol and thought "oh, if I be like them, maybe I'll be treated like them" or something.
Btw nobody can dress like Bellamy. Except maybe Lady GaGa.

@Haley
Same here!! I love those tats :D

Halerrrs's picture

@ThisHeart

Aww haha, same with me. I got one of the free honda civic tatoos on my arm. Once it finally faded, I was sad :(

That guy was insane! Hayley will remember him forever lol

ThisHeart_ItBeats's picture

@Haley
Yep it was!
I was kinda sad when my ear stopped ringing (two weeks later lol. Not exaggerating) I was like "But... That was my little reminder!"

Whats scary is that guy is more spazzy than I am. Thats saying a LOT xD

Halerrrs's picture

@ThisHeart

Haha FUN!

I would've been scared as hell if a random big guy were chasing me, but he was just excited XD I'm still laughing, I'm not even watching the video atm. Yeah, I know what you mean, when I went to one of the concerts, I was right next to the speaker. But I was at a pretty small venue, you probably had it way worse than I did. Ahh but it's all good fun, and part of the experience!

ThisHeart_ItBeats's picture

@Haley
I was laughing my ass off the whole time :'D
I can't believe he chased her. Hahahhah creeping much?
And yeah. I was like 10 people away from Josh. I was very happy. But that was the LOUDEST concert I'd ever been to cause it was right by the speaker. I blew both my ears out and one of em was messed up for 2 weeks after that. It was insane

Halerrrs's picture

@ThisHeart

LOL

I was looking through live videos and happened to come across it. It was hilarious! I can't believe she ran away... He's like, four times her size XD God, you're so lucky you were able to see it live. :'D

ThisHeart_ItBeats's picture

@Haley

i was literally just gonna link that haha :D YES! That dude was standing a couple people away from me. I love how hayley's like "And you..guy...girl...thing....are you a guy?" *response* "SHE'S A GUY!"

Halerrrs's picture

Bonjour's picture

@ThisHeart I know who you're talking about. He was New Found Glory's guitar tech or something like that. It was very funny :)

ThisHeart_ItBeats's picture

WAIT. I just remembered this one guy who dressed as Hayley at the last concert I went to. Its HILARIOUS *searches for a link*

Halerrrs's picture

@Lexi

Yeah, that's a great way of putting it. :)

Unforgettable's picture

Some people go totally all out, like the girls you described. I haven't seen anyone like that at a Paramore concert... yeah, I just don't understand it.

Lexi_10's picture

I have red hair, but I honestly didn't do it because of Hayley. I've always wanted red hair, and just recently my mom allowed me to dye it, so the fact that I always wanted it and Hayley had it made me dye it.
And even if I had dyed it because of her...it's not the same thing. I'm still my own person--I still have my own styles, my own personality.

When people change themselves to be like someone else--whether a celebrity or the popular person at school--I find it stupid. For the rest of your life, you are ALWAYS going to be yourself. So act like it.

Lei_5's picture

Agree... I mean when you have a role model, you really don't have to imitate his/her looks. I think they're giving it a "literal" meaning. you know, "ROLE Model" blah.
i think sometimes they thought that it's kinda cool but really it's lame ... People should be true their self. and Be who they are
(got it from "house bunny")
I think Celebrities find it annoying sometimes when someone's dressing up like them and not a good version.. haha
Oh and why do they have to wear heels on a concert?

ThisHeart_ItBeats's picture

I agree. That's just...strange. If I was in Taylor's place, looking out into the crowd and seeing a bunch of look alikes staring back at me, I'd be a little creeped out. Maybe flattered too, but still creeped out. Hey, that's just me, but...

Halerrrs's picture

I agree. But just so you know, so I don't sound like a hypocrite. Obviously, I have red hair. But I'm not trying to be a duplicate of Hayley. I also recieved the idea from Alison Iraheta and when I was little, my babysitter had flaming red hair. I've always loved it. I had to wait until I was old enough to actually go through with it.

To act, look and dress JUST like a celebrity would be quite embarrassing. It's too desperate...

MidnightFelicis97's picture

@Ginga da ninja
I don't mind people dressing up for concerts, I usually go more emoey to some concerts and less for others. It depends on what feels right, but I'd never feel the need to dress like the singer just to fit in.
especially if it meant wearing black lipstick.
I'm amazed her friends didn't bitch slap her into some sense.

Rachel Fabuleux's picture

There's a difference between "She's someone I look up to" and "OMG MUST GO ON HAYLEY FASHION WEBSITE AND BUY ALL OF HAYLEYS CLOTHES!!!!!"

Ginga Da Ninja ಠ_ಠ's picture

I agree. I mean, when you go to a midnight showing of Rocky Horror, people are dressed up as the characters, but that's different right? Cuz it's not like "OMG FRANKENFURTER IS MY ROLE MODEL!!!" I think maybe the girls you saw were trying to do that sort of thing, (dressing as her for the concert) but I don't think they should. A concert isn't Rocky Horror. They should wear stuff that they think is comfortable and is their style, but they shouldn't wear it just because Taylor does.
