Hello Paramore.net!!! Last Saturday I went to my first Paramore show. I feel like I've been waiting forever for Paramore to come back to my hometown. The last time they were here they opened for No Doubt and there was not a single ticket to be had. So it was with great excitement and anticipation that I headed to the Viejas Arena at SDSU for the show.
I brought one of my BFF's with me even though her music tastes differ completely from mine. Maybe I just knew that she'd enjoy the show no matter what. We only caught the end of Kadawatha's last song so can't really offer an opinion on them.
New Found Glory? OMG! Another reason for me to love Paramore, exposing me to NFG. Definitely need to check out one of their shows. The sound is upbeat, crisp, clean, catchy...their demeanor on stage is contagious. The guys are the perfect band to open up the show...they keep you entertained and excited. Most opening acts seem to forget that you're not there to see THEM and so they don't try too hard. But New Found Glory held it down...I'm just bummed that I didn't BUY THEIR SHIRT!!
Tegan and Sara were an experience...I don't know if I'm hooked yet, but I am intrigued. They are unique, they don't sound like anyone else. I loved Sara's "Canadian Shuffle". I'm going to keep my ears open for them though...
Something I noticed about this show...as it was the next to last stop on the tour...all the kinks have been worked out. The crew hustled between each set up and I never felt like I was kept waiting for very long. I lost track of time, didn't realize how long we waited for the main act.
Then the house lights are brought down and a sheer black curtain drops down obscuring the stage from the front. Our seats were off to the side though, so the effect they were going for was a little muttled for me. As the lights pulse on and off with a steady beat I'm thinking "Oh come on already! The suspense is killing me!" And, since the curtain is just in front, I can see Jeremy and Taylor from the side.....and then the curtain falls, more lights flash and holy crap I'm at a Paramore show and "Ignorance" is ringing in my ears LIVE!
The energy keeps up the entire time. It never lets up, Hayley is all over the stage, playing to each side. Its a wonder that Zac's arms haven't fallen off the way he keeps the beat going and going and going...and Jeremy! I've never seen a bass player move that much. *personal note: I was so thoroughly impressed with Mr. Jeremy Davis that I came home from the show and told my husband that the bass player was my 'Alyssa Milano' ... My hubby once told me that if Alyssa Milano ever came to our door for him, he'd have to leave me. Relax people, the hubby and I are about to celebrate being happily married for 11 years so its all in good fun that I told him I'd found my 'Alyssa Milano'- Jeremy Davis...HOT*
My favorite part of the show had to be Hayley and Josh in a single spotlight covering Loretta Lynn's song "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man". I'm showing my age, I know, (32). I'm not usually a fan of covers, but Hayley and Josh do it pretty well. I can't wait for that tribute album to come out.
Other observations: Josh is fairly serious and seemed to stay at his post for most of the evening, but since the guitar held steady throughout I have to assume this is just how he does it and it works. Taylor, cute cute cute...he appears to be really focused and concentrated on what he is doing. You can tell he's getting it done and having fun because every so often he joins in with Jeremy in a head bob/rock star move.
I was on my feet the whole time. Was next to some cool chicks that were on their feet too and kept rockin' out, they were the best strangers to sit next to (Section E). I wish I had a better camera to fully capture the live sound and the cell phone lights swaying during the last song..."The Only Exception". When I had screamed myself hoarse and the band came back out for the "Brick by Boring Brick" encore...I was thinking, 'This can't be it' but I went back over the songs in my head, and 'Yes, they've played practically everything...' The old, the new, the yet to be released...and Damn, have I really been jumping up and down for two hours???
The show was fan-freak-en-tas-tic. If you haven't seen Paramore live yet, you're in for an awesome time when you do.
Thanks for a great night Paramore! Come back to San Diego soon. I'm off to get a Twitter account just so I can 'follow' y'all around. I'm taping a piece of the confetti into my scrapbook next to my ticket stub...
