okay i need help. I've been trying to write a decent song for ages and nothing is working. I'll come up with a great chorus and not be able to think of anything else to put into the song. I'm having a really hard time. Anyways a lot of you have put up songs that you wrote and most of them are amazing. I was wondering if you could give me some tips or point me in a direction where i can at least get some where with a song. Don't just say write what you feel or something like that, it's more the actual structure of writeing i struggle with... not really so much on the words. if you can help i would be really really greatful.

    thanks

think about what you feel like how you're day was or how you view something. Then start writing. Or if you have an idea listen but don't know where to start listen to a song by someone else on the exact thing and maybe add some ideas from them like a line from the chorus or one of the verses. But its good to not insert every single same idea from the song you are listening too. so hope that helped

it would be cool if we all like, posted our lyrics up sometime, to share them

i would listen to a certain song *preferably paramore* and just focus on each instrument, each part it has in the song and the different dynamics to it. i listen to bbbb because it has a really freat structure and just go off that. hope i helped a bit :)

also, if a random line comes in your head at any time of the day,or if you hear someone say something which sounds cool, just write it down and come back to it later. like {misguided} carly said, you don't really need to write a full song all in one go

when you're writing a song, get into the mood of the song. kind of like the theme. really feel what you're writing. the lyrics will come out much stronger that way. i find the easiest way to do that is to actually write a song when i'm feeling that particular mood. for example, if im really happy, i just grab a paper and start writing. or if im rly angry, i grab a paper and start writing. if im sad i grab a paper and start writing. that kind of thing. hope it helps =D

you guys actually are a big help. Theyre crappy but i actually did manage to write a few songs. Im not going to post them up here yet cause theyre horrible but you were a big help.. thanks

it doesn't have to be a full song. it doesn't even have to be in a song form. just write what you're feeling and then when you're done, you can make it into a song format. i've realized that if i try to make it into a song format it ends up sounding forced and stuff, so i usually write poems and pull parts for verses and choruses. best of luck. post some stuff you have, i want to read!

Just write what comes to your heart and let your mind go free. At least that what I do. haha... hope this helps and good luck =)

Usually when I get an idea for a song it comes randomly. And like @Luke C said I usually am in a heightened emotion state. That usually makes song lyrics come easy to me. Also, if you just sit down and say "I want to write a song" than it makes it much harder. The easiest time to write is when your angry, sad, or your incrediblly happy. I hope this helps!

SAME AS @igotalottosaytoyou
:) hope it goes well :)

yeah, its kinda easier when your in a heightened emotion state, but at the same time sometimes if you try to hard to write something it just doesnt come out, but then lyrics can hit you in the most random of places like walking down the street. does that make sense? lol

In terms of structure most songs go verse chorus verse chorus, then some sort of breakdown/ bridge. chorus. try listening to a few songs you like and see what they are doing in terms of structure, it might help

kay, hope that was any help lol

bemyparamour3's picture

i usually wait till i'm feeling kinda angry because that's the only time i can get enough emotion, whereas if i do it when i'm happy it doesn't go well. but im not the best person either..,

hahahah.. ive written songs.. but theyre so crappy that i dont think i can possibly give anyone else advice.. i find it really hard to write.. I say wait for that one calm insomniac moment where everything just falls into place and your deep and thoughtful?..

violet cullen's picture

Well, what inspired you to write the chorus?
Find that inspiration and try to interpret it again. But sometimes thinking to much about it will block out create inspriation so give yourself a break.
Build up the feelings you've expressed in what you've written. Let out your emotions in the song. Find something meaningful and write about it.

if you want to write a good song, feel the mood of your song. Ahm, for example, if you want to write a break up song, feel heartbroken. Think of the words that you would write if your heart is broken.

it's kinda like being emphatic.

and work on a concept.

I am not sure if I am making sense. but I hope I helped.

well write about something like a break up or
something kinda like hayley and taylor swift
