Of course they sound a little similar, it's pretty much the same style of music. Then again, they also sound very different. Both bands are really great (but Paramore is still a lot better in my opinion.) I got into Tonight Alive because a friend told me that they sound a lot like Paramore. It doesn't really bug me that people compare them.
@Matt yeah i get what you mean, with bands sounding similar at first. After you listen to them for a while they do start to sound different. Thanks for your opinion! :)
Before I say anything more I'm just going to state this:
- I love Paramore and have done for nearly 6 years.
- I got into Tonight Alive recently and I also really adore them.
The comparisons are going to happen. They happen all over the music industry with all sorts of bands. If people are saying "They sound like Paramore, that's pretty cool 'cause I like Paramore. These are cool too" then that's fine. I happen to have about 6 or 7 bands that I love, like, really, due to Paramore comparisons and yeah, you find that they're different but Paramore brought me to them in a lot of ways.
Tonight Alive sounds more metally than Paramore have done before. The tempo in a lot of songs are very upbeat and they're pretty complicated sounding. They mix that in with Jenna's in a similar way that they do with Hayley's.
To someone so untrained in hearing both bands they will sound very similar.
Think of it this way. If you listen to very very heavy screamo bands. At first glance you'll listen to them and think "wow, they're loud" and then you'll find another band of the same nature and say "wow, they sound just like this other band". It's a similar thing.
Don't be annoyed by peoples ignorance. People can't help not knowing things, you know. You can either calmly say "To be honest, when I first started listening to them and I thought the same but once I got into them properly I stopped thinking like that" or you can just quite frankly stfu.
Y'know?
THEY ARE SOOOOOO AMAZING SEEN THEM 3 TIMES NOW, AND ON SUNDAY AT SOUNDWAVE WILL MAKE IT A 4TH YEWWWW now WHAT THE HELL is with all the dissing and comparing they dont sound alike at all, they have completely different messages to convey and different stories, the only similarity they have is the pop/rock genre, and people BOTH BANDS ARE CUTE/NICE/FUNNY/HAWT etc. so common guys dont be so ignorant and say that they are copying other wise you may as well say that paramore is copying no doubt, which you and i both know IS NOT TRUE but its the same kind of comparison! silly, i know but its what is happening, so yeah, they are both amazing bands go chuck tonight alive a listen, you never know you may love them, or you may not, decisions yours, but no hate needed =D http://www.tonightaliveofficial.com/
Since their debut album"What are you so scared of?" is coming out in just a couple of weeks (well, of course that's in America and such, it already came out I Australia), I decided to make the attempt to bump this topic ;) (by the way, it would be cool if you could edit this and announce the album's release in the topic...)
I LOVEEEEEEE TONIGHT ALIVEEEE!¡!¡ They are soooo good. And even though they don't sound exactly the same, they DO have some qualities that make them sound lik Paramore. I mean, you have to admitt it. And there's nothing wrong with bands sounding similar.
I cannot wait for "What are you do scared of?" to come out in the US!!!! "Breaking & Entering" and "Starlight" are really good so far!! I love "Consider This", my favorite song on the EP is "Revenge & Its Thrills" but I also love "Wasting Away" and "5 Years" is really good too.
This is an awesome Australian band. I know they'll go far :D

I don't think they do too much,but this is also the first time,and first song I've ever heard by them.So honestly,I really wouldn't know.The lead singer isn't as cute as Hayley at all,and the gutairest,drummer,and bassist aren't as hawt as Jerm or Taylor. >:3
