to be an American means standing up for freedom and charity and never giving up. it means that individual freedoms are respected and protected and every person has (or at least should have) a fair chance at success.
so basically to be an American is to choose your own destiny and have the freedom to change your life for the better if you want to work hard :)
Means that you do everything different and claim yours to be the right way to do things.
