the first song that i learnt to play was knocking on heaven's door...it's easy to play for a beginner. it's all about 3 simple chords loop. best fulfillment with minimum effort!
The Only Exception is really easy and its such a beautiful song =) I started learning the guitar recently and its the only song i can play at the moment!!

misguided ghosts, tht song is awesome, and if you don't likke that song the only exception... love em both!!! lol
The Only Exception!! It's really easy. But you need a capo.
I'm not a guitarist but I would try to master Assassin-Muse. That's got a brilliant guitar beginning that would be really hard to master and it can occupy you a while.
pick songs you like, its no good playing something you dont enjoy.

OH and I forgot to mention, It was an acoustic guitar.
