    not litteratly a blanket but something that you carry with you that makes you feel safe.

    for me its my ipod, it hold all my memories and the emotions i have ever felt in the music on it. i never go anywhere without it.

    so what makes you feel safer when your out in the world and not in your safe haven? <reffering to the recent topic of what your safe haven is.

I have this one black jacket that i wear a lot. Whenever I don't wear it, I don't feel unsafe, more like slightly uncomfortable.
Also if I don't have my phone in the right side pocket of my pants, I feel weird lol.

Any bag, my hand needs to hold on to something when i walk. Or pockets to put my hands in. But they don't provide me 'safety', it's more of a comfort thing.

Oh and definitely my TWLOHA bracelet my bf gave me :) I don't go anywhere without it!

@rawr!! i think anything can be a security blanket, one of my best friends uses his humor as a security blanket.

@lydia,
that is actually really cool!

I always have my phone or iPod. Without them I feel disconnected or even lonely, because I can't contact people (which makes me anxious in case something bad would happen while I don't have my phone) and I can't listen to music to tune things out.

I guess my hair is a security blanket, weird as that may sound. I've never had my hair shorter than my shoulders and I prefer it long, and a hairdresser said something about it being a shield because you can use it to hide your face...excuse me while I listen to Hair by Lady Gaga.

@rachel

i am so glad you never feel unsafe out in public.....im not saying that people feel unsafe all the time, im saying that there are instances where people feel uncomfortable in certain places or situations. though i am so glad that you and the people you speak of never have those moments and that you are all fearless....

Mine is my braclets, and my iPod. They keep me sane. I love listening to my music cause each song means something to me, as does each braclet. Can you call a smile a security blanket?

Rachel Fabuleux's picture

I use a phone to contact people
I have my ipod to listen to music.

I use these items for their practical use, not because they make me feel "safe." I don't even understand why someone would feel so UNsafe just walking outside their own front door that they would need a token to remind them of home.

Mine is probably my iPod too :) I never leave the house without it, and if I ever do I just feel like naked lol My Paramore jacket is also one. I always wear it. My mom even calls it my security blanket lol :)

ish_4's picture

so there is absolutely nothing that you would not leave the house without? even a phone, or makeup, an item in your purse? you might not think of it as a safety blanket because its so small or you just always have it on you?

Rachel Fabuleux's picture

I really don't think that's the case for "most" people.

ish_4's picture

most people have something they carry with them though. even if you don't realize it. some people do it consciously and some people do it unconsciously.

Why would you need something to make you feel "safer" to just go outside? Socializing isn't something nonhuman or terrifying and new.
