I've heard people say time and time again, "Oh, I'm a Paramore fan too!" Yet, when I start to get into detail about the band, their reply is somehting like "I just like (insert popular song form Riot! here) and (insert popular song for BNE here)." That kind of thing really seems to get on my nerves. I've been a Paramore fan for a while now but I'm sure I wouldn't be able to rival those who have beens fans before All We Know Is Falling. Still, I do have definition of what a true Paramore fan is.
A) All We Know Is Falling (or before) Veteran
- First Paramore songs heard were either the demos or those from AWKIF
- Eagerly awaited the release of Riot! When the album did come out, "That's What You Get" was a great song, but still loved the less-recognized songs.
- Checked this site, and any others, for updates on tours and the realease of the new Album.
- Counted down the days to the release of Brand New Eyes.
- Still, to this day, loves Riot! and AWKIF.
- Loves Brand New Eyes, despite it being so much different than Riot!
B) Riot! Recruiter
- First Paramore songs heard were from Riot! but immediately looked up the first album after hearing it.
- Loved AWKIF even after Riot! was released.
- (See #'s 4-6 above)
and C) Brand New Fan of Brand New Eyes
1. First Paramore songs heard were from Brand New Eyes but immediately looked up and listened to those from Riot! and All We Know Is Falling.
2. Fell in love with the first two albums.
If I offend anyone in any way, I apologize. I'm simply expressing my opinion. So, what's your difenitionof a "Treu Paramore Fan?" Which category would you fit into?
I love every single paramore song and know absolutely all the lyrics to every song off by heart; BUT I would define a true fan as ANYONE who just enjoys listening to ANY paramore song. Even if it's just one. Just my opinion.
I myself was a mizbiz baby boomer... lol.
I slowly but steadily digested Riot, and then moved on to AWKIF, and then low key freaked out when decode came out, but I wasn''t stalking it yet, but I did count the days until the ignorance video came out, along with BNE.
As of now I'm a total parawhore.
Being honest, I love every single songs from paramore. When I listen to their songs on my iPod, I put it to shuffle. Im kinda of a riot recruiter, but I love every album egally. For me, a true Paramore fan is just someone who likes every songs for what they are and who BUY instead of ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADING the songs. Look, I even bought both the physic and electronic album of riot, just to get some extra songs that were not on the physic support of Riot!. Thats it.
Well I gotta say that whole thing pretty much describes me besides the fact that I wasn't introduced to Paramore until shortly after RIOT! came out, but then again I didn't really know much about music until then either, but yeah I'm on the site at least every other day checking things. And I definitely counted down until their Brand New Eyes album came out and that's the first thing I did that day was go and get it and put it on my iPod and listened over and over. I know the words by heart to nearly all of their songs, and wish so so so badly that I could go to a concert of theirs but I just can't afford it, and they never come close enough.....but yeah I'm definitely one according to your definition :)
I'm a B) Riot recruiter.
I am a HUGE fan of "Let The Flames Begin" and "Fences." I immedietly fell in love with AWKIF, but Riot! is my all time favorite. I'm a fan of Brand New Eyes, too. I love "Turn it Off" and "Misguided Ghosts" I guess it doesn't matter WHEN you fell in love with them, it just matters that you are a true and loyal fan!
We are fans of the music, whether thats every single song on the album or 10 songs altogether.
I dont think that if you dont like 3 or 4 songs by paramore, you are not a true fan.
I dont think that if you dont know where hayley, taylor and jeremy was born, then you are not paramore fan.
There is a lot of different fans, and nobody is better than nobody,we're fans,a family,we just have to enjoy the music.
SILL
There are no such things as true fans. You have those who has been here from the start, and you have those who still thinks Hayley is the whole band. It doesn't matter who knows most lyrics or who went to most shows. We are all gathered here to listen to good music. We are all people who support Paramore. We are all people who would hit the Paramore button in a mtv vote for example. We are all fans. There is nothing more to it. Some may have the band as a more important part in their life, and some may only like 3-4 songs. None of them are better than the other. They all got Paramore where they are today.
I agree with most of what you said, but I honestly dont think when you discover the band or when you fell in love with them matter. As long as you fall in love with every single song and each one speaks to you differently then your a fan. Because I dont have money for concerts which is unfortunate but I am a die hard fan of Paramore. If I could I'd be at every single show without fail. I suppose I'm a Riot! Recruiter :]
@MADYWARPED exactly. I agree with you 100% nicely done :D
@BNE
Because you CAN and people DO like 3 Paramore songs and consider themselves fans of the band. You have no right to suggest otherwise and you are doing exactly that.
They had every right to just give up on the band. Again, that is not for you to judge.
You're dictating and you shouldn't be.
There is no "true fan" We're all fans equally! Case closed. I win the cookies. Yeeea
"6. Loves Brand New Eyes, despite it being so much different than Riot!"
Loves Brand New Eyes because it is so much better than Riot. is more accurate.
Well it doesn't leave the best impression when your labeling people who are just getting in to the band. I think whats being compared is people who are obsessed and those who are just fans. Its whatever though. Just makes me not want to see them live just because of the fan base. -Bye!
I couldn't delete my last comment, I don't know what happened, so ignore that one.
@Matt
First off, what part of "he DOES NOT NEED to know all the demos and unreleased or whatever, AT LEAST the 3 albums or a MAJORITY of them. It's already enough" you didn't understand, fella? Well, but I'd change it. The majority of Riot! and BNE is already a good thing. Even half of the 3 albums is already good. Anyway. Numbers are not important, it's just a reference. Because, c'mon, the dude that knows 3 Paramore songs is not a fan, but he doesn't need to know all of them to be one. So I gave some EXEMPLES of what's considered a fan. But, as I said, it can change, because they're just exemples.
And about the Farro brothers thing, I'm talking about the people who read that blog and immediately gave up on the band. They didn't wait for an explanation from Hayley, Jeremy and Taylor, they just believed in the first bad things that were said and forgot about everything the band meant to them one hour before reading the post. It's completely ok to feel betrayed and hurt, I felt that way too, but we kept there, we waited for the group's side of the story, at least.
And I'm not saying you're not a fan, I haven't said anything about you. It's just thoughts. I may be wrong - I recognize that. I randomly thought of some definitions for a true fan, but there are exceptions. What really matters is how the person feels about an artist's music. It must be special. The rest isn't that important, actually. You shouldn't take it so seriously. It's not like "the rules" for being a fan, just some probable features that I think that they SHOULD (note that's not MUST) have. I won't blame on anyone for not fitting in any of these definitions. I've only said it because @91 sense asked to, I probably wouldn't say it in another situation.
My intention wasn't hurt or piss of anybody, I'm sorry.

To me, a true Paramore fan is anyone that appreciates Paramore's music, the meanings and the skills. And of course, Hayley, Jeremy and Taylor, as people.
Personally, I don't believe it's about who loved Paramore first or who knows all their songs, etc - it's about who sticks with them until the very end.
@brand new eyes
You just completely displayed ignorance right there and then.
The "fans" that you feel you're able to judge based on a fact you clearly cannot understand felt betrayed by the band. I felt the exact same way and that doesn't mean that you weren't a "fan" because you couldn't get through it.
That meant that you're human enough to be hurt by it and not be able to move past it. It's incredibly unfair to judge people so much based on their feelings. What are you trying to prove? How self righteous you are?
A fan doesn't need to know the 3 albums. They don't need to be able to relate to the songs. I don't care if this is "your opinion" or not. Your opinion is incredibly ignorant to other people.
You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.
ALL you can see is people like yourself. Those that know the demos and all the other crap. There ARE people ignorant to such things and they aren't to be blamed for that.
I adore Rise Against. I have done for about 5 years now? I only know who Tim is. I don't know the other guys names and if I walked passed them I doubt I'd recognise them. I have a massive love for every one of their songs and the meanings they portray though and you're suggesting that I'm not a fan because I haven't wikipedia'd them? Wow.
I don't feel happiness for everything the band do. I didn't feel particularly proud about their "recovery" from the Farro's departure and I don't really admire them THAT much. I respect their jobs, their position in the world and their abilities but I don't admire them really.
I've met the band, seen them live 6 times in the space of 2 years, been a member of the PFC for 3 years, been a well known member of this site for 2 years, got many many people into paramore, own the deluxe bne boxset that made me broke for a month, have thousands of posters and own every cd/dvd i can get my hands on. but according to you i am not a fan because i don't fit most of your criteria.
lolbullshit.
Being a true fan, for me, has nothing to do with how long you know a band, but how much you love it. Fan isn't that dude who's there since the beginning, it's who's there till the end, you know? Many "fans" just gave up on Paramore after Josh and Zac's Exit Statement. I believe that this situation was good at this point: revealing who would really stick there with the band, no matter what happened, and who wouldn't. It's pretty much like friendship: you only recognize who's really important in bad times.
Well, you've asked for a definition, so I'm gonna give mine. The dude must know their job, he doesn't need to know all the demos and unrealeased or whatever, at least the 3 albums or a majority of them. It's already enough. Not only knowing, but liking and relating to them is also very important. He must know all the members and recognize their importance in the band, otherwise he's just one more Hayley lover. He must be realistic, not a close-minded and obsessed person who thinks the band and everything they do is perfect. He must know how to deal with critics. And the most important: he must be able to look to their band and feel happy for their happiness, proud for their recover and feel that special love and admiration for the guys. That's what matters
Someone who likes Paramore.
I'm begging, literally begging for the day when someone says to me "you aren't a fan of *insert band here*". If I have taken the time out of my life to give them the chance for me to listen to them enough for me to say that I like their music and that I am a fan of what they do then I'm a fan.
At the end of the day you liking a band is supporting them. Whether you're paying for the songs, merchandise, CDs or whatever else is not important. They make their music to reach out to people in any way possible. And by listening to said music you're supporting that. Whether it be one song, one album or one snippet that you've heard randomly and can't get out of your head. It's doing the job.
So next time someone says that I am not a "true fan" of any band whatsoever that I have or like a song by, I will give them this kick in the face and tell them to fuck off.
I'll never claim to be the biggest fan of anything, ever. That's being naive. I'll settle with being a fan.
thats totally true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i really like all of these definitions! but i dont think theres a right or wrong way. liking a band is just liking a band, theres no official way to do it.
a true fan is someone who sticks with Paramore no matter what
Someone told me
" It doesn't matter if you were there in the beginning as long as you're there to the end"
i don't think there is a "definition." if you love the band than your a fan. but that's my opionion and that is yours.
People who label other fans like this are ignorant. Its about enjoying the music not seeing how long you've known of paramore. This is the only fan base i know of that does this crap. Knock it the hell off and grow up. Enjoy the music. I have all the albums. Heard of paramore on the radio this year. So i bought the albums about a month ago. Therefore i am not a "true paramore fan."
I think i would fit into between B) and C) because one of the first songs that i actually knew was Paramore would have been Decode and its was released inbetween those albums haha but my definition of a true Paramore fan would be to: know all of their songs, to know the history of the band, and to know majority or all of the lyrics to every song by Paramore..I hope you guys agree lol :)
Enjoying listening to their music.
Boom.
thanx,i dont listen to the haters cuz people like you will actually make it worth it to actually chat without being laughed at or humiliated
